Two oversized party hats jut from the wall at eye level, turning a familiar symbol of celebration into something harder to approach. Their metallic surfaces catch the room through reflection and distortion, pulling the surrounding space into the work and making it difficult to ignore.
Ariana draws on pop culture, but not in a purely playful way. The sculptures carry a sense of violent playfulness: bright, festive, and visually seductive, yet also sharp, confrontational, and slightly absurd. This tension gives the work its force. What first appears humorous begins to feel charged with warning.
At the same time, the paired forms suggest a maternal protector, as if they are guarding the space around them. Yet that protection also reads as a threatening mass, turning sweetness into pressure and celebration into something uneasy.
