Natural Vistas for the Post-Collapse Off-World Luxury Client 1
White plastic forms cluster along the bottom of a circular frame, suggesting plants or coral. Their folds and branches create a miniature landscape for display. Cazares imagines a luxury customer living beyond earth after environmental collapse. The customer purchases an abstraction of nature while contributing to the destruction of real natural environments. Nature becomes an object of consumption, valued for the pleasure its appearance provides. Their indifference allows them to enjoy an image of nature while ignoring its destruction beyond the frame.
Natural Vistas for the Post-Collapse Off-World Luxury Client is an ongoing series of works primarily using cast plastic. The works are fictional dioramas of Earth-like natural settings intended to be pleasing to a customer that is interested in purchasing an abstraction of nature while simultaneously contributing to the destruction of the real thing. The customer does not know that the natural elements are abstractions, that they are not real depictions of the plant life of Earth. And if you told him, he would not care.
